Here's the hat

Well, I thought I had posted the hat pic previously (sigh). Here it is with the sweater.

Welcome, baby Ursula!

On Monday, January 28, baby Ursula Paige Cumper came into this world weighing 7 lbs, 6.9 oz. Daryl and I are thrilled to have a new granddaughter. I finished a shrug for Ursula that matches the hat shown in a previous post and the two are going out in the mail today. These two items are a bit large for now, so there was no hurry. The finished quilt was sent out early this month and you can take a peek at it here:

Currently, I'm back to working on a pair of socks and will resume my cabled sweater later this week. It's snowing outside again, and a nice warm sweater is calling to me!

Hats plus

I'm having great fun with this freebie pattern from the web, "rolled brim baby hat with topknot". It knits up very quickly and easily. As the yarn I had available for the green hat was finer than that called for in the pattern, I dropped down a needle size. The green hat has knitted hearts in contrasting yarn, while the cream colored hat uses beads to define the hearts. I did not put beaded hearts on the back of the hat to be sure it remains soft and comfy.

For Ursula

The baby sweater and booties were sent off around the first of the year. They knit up rather quickly, thank goodness! The sweater has i-cord ties on the outside and inside the wrap have ribbon ties. The booties didn't have ties, so I made i-cords for those as well and sewed them to the back side to wrap around the ankles...they would be too easily lost otherwise.

I've just finished a funky hat and am working on a pair of booties to to follow once the set is done. These are in addition to Ursula's baby quilt which should be completed this weekend and in the mail Monday. Whew! Then on to Isabelle's many babies, so little time! :-) And I thought retirement would be boring...

Not one, but TWO babies!

Morgan and Viviana (North Carolina) will be welcoming Isabelle Kaelynne around the third week in March. Although there have been weather delays, Morgan IS on his way home from his tour in Afghanistan as I write this! Hooray!

Heather and John (Nevada) are expecting Ursula Paige later this month. That announcement has sent me into a frenzy of grandma activity!
